Teak Life Announces First European Distributor, Renskib

Strathroy, Ontario, Canada (March 7, 2023) – Teak Life, a water-borne, enviro-friendly line of teak finish products designed to provide long-term protection and maintenance of teak decks, will now be available to boat owners throughout Europe by Renskib, the first European wholesaler to support dealers and OEM of Teak Life products.

Renskib, a company focused on the cosmetic maintenance of yachts since 1995, has a service and products division. Renskib has years of experience in teak wood maintenance and beautification for a network of boat owners, marina owners, and boat importers throughout Europe. They had been looking for a teak protection product to add to their arsenal for many years before finding Teak Life.

“We have seen many products that just didn’t measure up to our high standards, but Teak Life is a fantastic product that offers amazing teak protection, shortens maintenance cycles, and makes teak wood look amazing,” said Martin Walter Massenberg, Renskib owner. “For several years we’ve been testing Teak Life on many different applications, from teak garden furniture to teak boat decks in varying locations, and we have full confidence in offering Teak Life to sailors. We really don’t need to say anything about Teak Life to our customers – the way it looks on our boats speaks for itself.”

Massenberg noted that Teak Life’s low-VOC profile and water-based formulation fits Renskib’s strict environmental standards. “As sailors, we enjoy the beauty of nature the way it is, so we make sure our products help keep it that way,” said Massenberg.

Renskib’s motto is, “Design your shine.” The company cleans and polishes yachts year-round, helping them look like new again. They also teach yacht owners how to wash and maintain their boats or can be contracted to do maintenance for them.

A passion for boating inspired Massenberg to found the company nearly three decades ago, and it is the same love for maritime adventures – combined with a passion for the beauty and performance of wood – that led Sansin to launch the Teak Life line. Backed by more than three decades of Sansin’s wood coatings development experience, this line of marine-grade products is designed specifically to restore, protect, and maintain teak decks year after year.

“Renskib demonstrates a thorough approach to yacht maintenance and repair,” said Sjoerd Bos, Managing Director of Teak Life. “They have the experience, know-how, commitment to quality, and strong network to make this partnership successful.”

Teak Life: Everything You Need to Know to Protect Your Deck

Whether you are restoring an old teak deck or protecting a new one, Teak Life can extend the life of your deck, protecting it from sun, salt and spray. Teak Life was born from a passion for the sea combined with a passion for the beauty and performance of wood.

The robust Teak Life product line includes: Teak Life Wood Wash, which creates a clean, natural-looking wood surface; Teak Jammer, a high-performance seam sealant and structural adhesive; Teak Life UV, a teak finish available in two tones, and Teak Life UV Topcoat, which blends with Teak Life UV as a top- and maintenance coat.

Here are the step-by-step instructions you need to follow to successfully protect your teak deck.

  • Remove Old Caulking: With any project, preparation is the most important first step. Remove any dried out, brittle caulking between the planks using a knife or an oscillating saw equipped with a special bit, being careful not to splinter the teak as you work.
  • Sand Thoroughly: Protect the fiberglass and hardware components of the boat with tape, then sand the surface of the teak using 60 grit paper. This important step will level the surface and open the pores of the wood to prepare it for absorbing the Teak Life finish.
  • Apply Teak Jammer: Tape the teak boards, ensuring the tape does not get into the joints where you will be applying Teak Jammer. Using a caulking gun, apply Teak Jammer into the joints, being careful to get the product all the way to the bottom of the joint. Teak Jammer sets quickly, so work in small areas, taking time to trowel off the excess product before moving to the next section. Apply light pressure as you trowel to ensure the product penetrates the joint completely. Allow the product to cure for about an hour before carefully removing the tape.
  • Apply the Finish: This first coat of Teak Life UV is designed to penetrate deep into the wood, protecting it against UV light. Teak Life UV Topcoat is the second coat, which will also be the maintenance coat that you will reapply every 9-18 months depending on the usage and exposure of your boat, as well as your geographic location. It’s important to keep the first coat really wet, allowing it to soak into the wood before wiping away any excess product with a dry brush or cloth. Perform this work on a cloudy day or at the least out of direct sunlight and extreme heat will help you achieve a beautiful and durable finish.

One last note: be proactive about maintenance. Inspect the finish every 12-18 months and apply a maintenance coat to help keep the wood protected and looking beautiful.

TEAK LIFE HELPS HOLLAND COUPLE ENJOY LIFE ON MARTIN 60-FOOTER

Racing and recreational sailing are a way of life for Jet and Bjørn, a couple from Holland who have spent more than four decades together enjoying water sports. While sailing in the North Sea Regatta in Scheveningen 24 years ago, they spotted a huge white yacht that captured their attention. It turned out to be a 1996 Martin Marine 60-footer – the latest acquisition of German industrialist and yachtsman Wilhelm “Willi” Illbruck. The timeless boat, named Pinta Smeralda and designed by Judel Vrolijk, was built as a cruiser with a Volvo ocean hull and carbon construction. The couple never imagined they could afford such a ship, but they couldn’t get it out of their minds. Twelve years later they found out the Pinta Smeralda was for sale, and they jumped at the chance to purchase it.

The Dalhousie Sailing Team

Sansin Helps Sailing Team Reach New Heights

Sansin is proud to have been the 2019/2020 sponsor of The Dalhousie Sailing Team, a Tier 1 club at Dalhousie University, based in Halifax, Canada. The Dalhousie Sailing Team comprises four teams, including a Keel Boat and Dinghy team, with 35 sailors who practice for the chance to attend Regattas throughout the year, compete against other university teams and advance their professional sailing skills.

With Sansin’s sponsorship, the team was able to attend more regattas throughout the year and send more sailors to each competition. The year’s season ended with a big event in Florida, called the Mid-Winters Keel Boat Regatta, hosted by the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Sansin congratulates the Dalhousie team for placing 2nd overall in this competitive race.

According to Mauraine Bos, the VP of Dalhousie Sailing Team, “As many know, sailing is not an inexpensive sport, so we are very grateful for the opportunities this sponsorship affords us.”

Congratulations to Swan 53: 3rd in-class finish in Mackinac distance race

Vrijheid, a Swan 53, recently had its extensive teak deck refinished in Teak Life UV Gray. Vrijheid took 3rd in class in the 2018 Bayview Mackinac Race, and the teak deck proved invaluable during sail changes with the deck awash.

The owner cruises extensively with his Swan and values the UV protection provided by Teak Life UV, extending the life of his deck indefinitely. Whether it’s on a classic racing yacht or family cruiser, Teak Life proves itself in maximizing the value and reducing the maintenance normally associated with a teak deck.

New 2018 Color for Teak Life

The 2018 season kicked off with a new, exciting natural tone – Teak Life UV Tan. Most recently applied to a Pieter Beeldsnijder-designed 18.3m motor cutter based in the Netherlands, the boat was cruised extensively this summer in fresh and saltwater around the North Sea and Holland, putting Teak Life UV to the test.

The owner not only appreciated the new color, but he also found that he could keep the decks clean much easier compared to other treatments and products. Although Teak Life is known to last 50 percent longer than competitive treatments, Teak Life UV can be touched up quite easily, only requiring a light cleaning and maintenance coat. This approach means less damage to the teak from sanding or scrubbing, extending the life of the deck and making maintenance easier.

The easier way to keep your teak deck beautiful

There is an indescribable feeling setting foot on a teak deck; maybe it’s knowing that sailors going back to Lord Nelson’s time conquered the seas on the same type of deck, or it simply might be the soft warmth you feel every time you step back on your yacht. Whatever the reasons, along with the beauty and history of teak, comes the practical cost and maintenance of teak. Maintenance for teak can be much easier with the right formula.

Cleaners and other treatment products can create that sought after “bleached” deck appearance, but the frequent maintenance cycle and cleaning methods mean a teak deck is being worn down at a rate faster than regular wear. Now, you have a better option. Teak Life UV offers a formula that not only maintains the aesthetic appearance of teak available in 5 different tones, but also provides greater protection to teak; reducing maintenance cycles and indefinitely extending the life of a teak deck.
